The Institute For Helping The Disabled

Empowering Persons with Disabilities Since 1995

Looking Ahead

Three initiatives shaping our roadmap.

A Three-Part Vision For The Coming Decade

The Institute has grown from a small initiative in 1995 to a recognised centre serving 45 children today. The next chapter is about depth, not just numbers — building the residential, vocational, and emotional-care infrastructure that the children we already serve will need as they grow up. These three plans, put together, describe what we hope to build between now and 2035.

Initiative 01

Residential Rehabilitation Centre

A residential rehabilitation centre for children with multiple disabilities — addressing a significant gap in state services. Land or accommodation has been requested from the State Government, ideally close to transportation hubs and hospitals.

Initiative 02

Industrial Training Centre (ITC) for Handicapped Persons

Vocational training centres under NCVT and SCVT, offering trades suited to persons with disabilities. The Director, Technical Education, Odisha has been approached for active consideration and support.

Initiative 03

Boarding School for Emotionally Disturbed Children

A boarding school for emotionally disturbed children who struggle to fit into mainstream education due to psychological difficulties and adjustment issues at home and school.

Initiative 01

Residential Rehabilitation Centre

Many of our students live too far to attend a day school, or come from families where daily care is not possible. A residential rehabilitation centre would close that gap — a permanent home where 30-50 children with the most complex needs can live, learn, and receive consistent therapy under one roof. We have requested land or building from the State Government close to transport hubs and hospitals; identification is currently in progress.

Initiative 02

Industrial Training Centre (ITC) for Handicapped Persons

Children grow up. The students who joined us in their early years are now young adults, and the question every parent asks — "what will he do at twenty-five?" — has no ready answer in the existing system. An Industrial Training Centre under NCVT and SCVT, designed around trades suited to persons with disabilities, would give that answer. The Director of Technical Education for Odisha has been approached for support. Curriculum and trade selection are next.

Initiative 03

Boarding School for Emotionally Disturbed Children

Not every child who needs us has a physical disability. A growing number of children are referred for emotional and behavioural difficulties severe enough that mainstream schools cannot hold them. A residential boarding school dedicated to this group — with on-site psychologists and a recovery-focused academic programme — would fill a gap that families currently cross state borders to address.

How You Can Help Build This

These projects will be funded by a combination of government allocation, institutional grants, and individual giving. Every donation — large or small — moves us closer. Land donation, professional services, equipment in kind, or simply telling our story to those who can help all matter.
